Week 8- A Tale of Two Cities

Madame Defarge, the wood sawyer, Jacques Three, and the Vengeance are all in a meeting and Madame Defarge still wants to kill the rest of Darnay's family, which would be Lucie, little Lucie, and Dr. Manette. Miss Pross and Mr. Cruncher are going to leave the country, and decide to meet at the church and then leave so its not so suspicious. Then Madame Defarge shows up at the house and Miss Pross is alone and Miss Pross keeps her occupied for awhile and then get into a quarrel and Miss Pross ends up killing Madame Defarge, but I am unsure how she actually kills her.

It is scary how people would go watch the prisoners get their heads chopped off. Carton then dies from the guillotine. The ending of this story leaves everyone happy. Lucie and Darnay have their whole family, Carton is in a better place and he will be happier there, and Madame Defarge is gone, therefore no one will try to go after Darnay's family. Carton is a wonderful man. He knows he did the right thing and it was better for all of them. He is so brave!

The book always had me guessing. I could never tell what exactly would happen next...I loved the book.

If you remember when Madame Defarge was walking towards Lucie's old house, where Miss Pross was, it stated that he had a sword and a loaded gun on her. So when the fighting began she reached for her gun, but Miss Pross's obviously used her overbearing strength and turned the gun on Madame Defarge instead.

I saw it as Miss Pross had killed her on accident. When she was wrestling with Madame Defarge, Defarge reached for her gun and I think that Miss Pross saw it and moved a little bit, causing the gun to fire and hit Defarge. (Kind of like in movies where somebody is about to shoot another person and someone jumps in and strikes the person so the gun goes up and fires....)

Madame Defarge didn't want to kill Dr. Manette necessarily. She actually said that she didn't care what happened to Dr. Manette as long as Lucie and little Lucie died because they were in Darnay's family now and Dr. Manette wasn't technically.
Miss Pross accidentally killed Madame Defarge by shooting her. Madame Defarge persisted to try to get into the apartment to see Lucie even though Lucie wasn't there. Miss Pross wouldn't move, and finally, Madame Defarge tries to force her way into the apartment, but Miss Pross stops her and accidentally shoots her in the midst of the struggle causing her deafness from the gunshot.

I also think that the hatred of Madame Defarge was more directed at Lucie and Little Lucie because they are part of Darnay's family now. And I too think that Miss Pross shot Madame Defarge with her overpowering strength.
